Lee, Choi, Shim, Kim, Kim, Seo, and Lee: A Case of Multiple Involvements of Histiocytosis

Abstract

A case of multiple involvements of Histiocytosis in 1 & 3/12-year-old male is reported. The patient was admitted with chief complaints of diffuse swelling and tenderness on the left forearm. The diagnosis was confirmed by radiological evidence and biopsy findings. This initial lesio (left radius) was healed completely by curettage, but other lesions were missed.
About seven months later, the patient was readimitted with chief complaits of swelling and terderness on the dorsum of the right hand. Radiographic examination revealed multiple skeletal involvements-humerus, clavicle, scapula, metacarpal, vertebrae, femur and pelvic bones-which are similar findings with initial lesion. But classic triad of Hand-Schüller-Christian Syndrome (skull defects, exophthalmos and diabeter insipidus) was not found. Second biopsy was carried out in the right second metacarpal bone and similar pathologic findings were also demonstrated. Some improvements were noted with steroid (prednisone). The patient is still alive well and follow-up studies are being continued.
The review of literature was made briefly.
