Han and Kwun: Pseudomyxoma peritonei

Abstract

A case of pseudomyxoma peritonei probably due to ruptured appendiceal mucocele associated with multiplecartilagenous exostosis was observed on January 6, 1968 at Chonnam University Hospital in a 28 year old mald whosechief complaints were abdominal distention, severe abdominal pain, tenderness in the right lower quadrant,vomiting, fever elevation, and palpable soft masses in the abdomen. The patient received three times of operation,irrigation of the peritoneal cavity by Nitromin on operation, and injection of Nitromic post-operatively for 4years and 9 months duration from January 6, 1968 to October 5, 1972 and is still active in his daily works at thepresent moment. Pathophysiology, etiological disease, incidence, age and sex distribution, pathology, majorclinical symptoms and signs, and treatment and prognosis of pseudomyxoma peritonei are discussed with a review ofliterature.
