It is a recent trend to perform the farium reduction for intussusception if the general condition of thepatients permit. In cases of failure of barium reduction, operative reduction is the next procedure. We haveperformed barium reduction on 204 cases of intussusception that were admitted to W.M.B.H. from Jan. 1976 to Mar.1979. We reviewed these cases and report the following results. 1. The ratio of male to female was 1.9:1. 2. 97%of patients were under 2 years of age, 88% under 1 year of age. No patients were under 1 month of age. 3. The mostprevalent season is the spring (Mar, to May). 4. The presenting points at barium enema were in the hepatic flexure(36.3%), Cecum (30.9%) and Transverse colon (29.4%). 5. The etiology was unknown in most of cases(93.1%). 6. Theclinical symptoms and singns were as follows; bloody stool (91.2%), vomiting(87.7%), palpable mass(55.4%)abdominal distension (31.4%), etc. 7. The types of intussuscription at operation were ileocolic (28.9%), ileocecal(22.2%) and ileoileal (11.1%), etc. 8. The reduction rate of barium enema in relation to the duration of symptomswas about 80% within 24 hours and about 73% over 24hrs. 9.The type of management was barium reduction primarily, and in the cases of the failure, operative procedure was followed.
