congenital partial or complete unilateral absence of the sternocostal portion of the pectoralis musclesassocaited with syndactyly of the ipsilateral hand was first described in 1841 by Alfred Poland. The syndrome isnot hereditary and is of unknwn origin. Approximately 100 cases of Poland's syndrome have been reported. Itaffects males more frequently than females and the right side is more often affected than the left. The clinicalfeatures are variable but always include congenital hypolasia and soft tissue syndactyly. Pearl et al stressed theneed for adequate radiographic evaluation of the chest and hands of all patients with syndactyly, and reacentlymany authors reported increased incidence of acute leukemia in patients with Poland's syndrome. This report willdocument a typical case of Poland's syndrome with the review of literature.
