Suh, Kim, Kim, Kang, Jang, and Park: CT of extremity tumorous conditions

Abstract

CT scans weredone in 51 cases with extremity tumorous conditions at the department of radiology, Kyung Pooknational university hospital from January 1985 to June 1988. CT provided useful information leading to a correctdiagnosis in 13.0% of the bone lesions and in 16.0% of the soft tissue lesions. Malignant neoplasms could bedifferentiated from benign neoplasm in 90.0% of the cases. In 82.4% the extent of the lesions was clearly defined.15.7% of the lesions were detected only by CT. The information provided by CT palyed important role in making theclinical management planning in 78.4% of the cases. Our study suggest that CT will be useful for extremitytumorous conditions by demonstrating the extent of lesions and for treatment planning especially if it involvesthe soft tissue alone or soft tissue and bone together.
