Oh, Choi, Kim, Park, Chung, and Suh: Radiologic features of primary small bowel tumors

Abstract

The diagnosis of primary small bowel tumors can be a challenge for both clinician and radiologist because oftheir vague of non-specific clinical presentation and its anatomic characteristiics. A retrospective study wasmade in 44 patients who had the proven primary tumors of small bowel by pathologist to identify radiologic characteristics during recent 7 years. There were 16 cases of adnocarcinoma, 15 cases of lymphoma, 9 cases of leiomyosarcoma, 2 cases of leiomyoma, and 2 cases of hamartomatous polyp. 1. Adenocarcinoma was irregularlyannular proximal bowel mass with 4cm in mean lengh(2-7cm in range) and bowel dilatation in 56%. 2. Lymphoma frequently showed annular distal bowel wall mass with 7cm in mean size(3-15cm in range), aneurysmal ulcer in 31%and lymphadenopathy in 42%. 3. Leiomyosarcoma was lobulated exophytic bulky mass with 10cm in mean size(7-15cm inrange), associated with necrotic low density area in 78%. 4. Leiomyoma revealed smooth, ovoid filling defect without necrotic area in duodenal lesion, and a large septated cystic mass in jejunum. 5. Hamartomatous polypshowed multiple polypoid filling derects and intussusception, associated with polyps in large bowel.
