Park, Kim, Choe, Cho, Han, and Han: Percutaneous transluminal angioplasty: short-term results of 49 cases

Abstract

Percutaneous transluminal angioplasty(PTA) was performed in 49 cases in Department of Radiology,Seoul NationalUniversity Hospital for 5 years from July 1984 to June 1989. Total angioplasty sites were 61 vascular lesions; 28renal arteries including 7 bilateral lesions, 11 iliac arteries, 7 membraneous obstructions of inferior vena cava,5 abdominal aortas, 5 post-op. stenoses, 3 arteries of lower extremities and 2 subclavian arteries. In these 49patients, over-all initial success rate was 83%. Among the 32 patients who was followed one to four years afterPTA, 22 showed evidences of patency, suggesting 69% one-year patency rate. For the 21 patients of renovascularhypertension, initial success rate was 81% and one-year patency rate was 64%. For the 11 patients of iliac arterystenosis, initial success rate was 100% and there was no evidenced of recurrence. Though the distribution ofvascular disease in Korea seems to be different from those in western countries, our favorable result of PTA makesone expect good prevalence of this procedure in the future for stenotic vascular lesions in this country.
