Rah, Choi, and Lee: A Clinical Experience of P . G . P. Nailing for Delayed Union of the Tibia Followed by External Skeletal Fixation: Report of Five Cases

Abstract

Between January 1983 and December 1986, Sixty-one patients were treated with external skeletal fixation for the open tibial fractures. Inspite of the many merits, external skeletal fixation had some problems during treatment of open tibial fracture such as, pin tract infection, pin loosening, delayed union and nonunion etc. Secondary closed intramedullary nailing with P.G.P. nail was performed and obtained good results in delayed union of five cases at the department of Orthopedic Surgery of Soonchun-hyang hospital. P.G.P. nailing is valuable methods for the delayed union of the tibial shaft fracture after external skeletal fixation.
