Lee, Kwon, and Koo: Divergent Elbow Dislocation: Report of One Case

Abstract

Divergent elbow dislocations are extremely rare. This injury includes disruption of all three joints comprising the elbow : the radiocapitellar, the ulnotrochlear and the proximal radioulnar joints. According to Stimson's classification4), there were two types : anteroposteior and mediolateral (transverse). We experienced a case of divergent elbow dislocation, which was treated conservatively. A seventy-two-year-old woman had posterior dislocation of ulnotrochlear joint with lateral dislocation of proximal radioulnar joint. Comminuted fracture of ulnar coronoid process was also noted. Closed reduction was perfomed easily but maintenance of radial head was difficult. Over eight-month period the coronoid process fracture was healed and elbow showed marked limitation of motion.
