Abstract
The cementless total hip arthroplasty began in 1977 with implantation of a porous coated, modified Austin-Moore or Matchett-Brown prosthesis of AML at the Anderson Clinic. Its rationale for the implementation of biologic fixation arthroplasty is that the elimination of cement at the boneimplant interface will result in a more healthy and enduring union between artificial and living materials. We have experienced 37 cases of AML hip arthroplasty and followed up more than 12 months since 1987. Following results were obtained. 1. The average of Harris score was improved up to 89.0 postoperatively. The improvement of Harris score was much more at the age group of younger than 40 years. 2. At the radiological analysis, the average of vertical migration of acetabular cup is 1.9mm, and the average of the horizontal migration is 1.2mm. The average of vertical subsidence of femoral stem is 2.1mm. The loosening of the prosthesis is not observed. 3. The decrement over 10% of corticomedullary ratio was observed at 8 cases. 4. The three cases of resorbed calcar femorale was observed.
