Lee, Chun, Ahn, Park, Lee, and Paik: A Study of Hand Lesion Exposed by Radiation

Abstract

Recently radioisotopes are being used widely in many fields such as medicine and industry. In Korea, there were few reports about the hand lesion that developed after exposure to radiation. We experienced 7 cases of radiodermatitis that developed to labors of transpierce test in industry, of our 7 patients, 4 cases were acute form and 3 cases were chronic form. In acute cases conservative treatment for radiation burn was performed and then recovered 5-6 weeks after exposure, but one case of them recurred at 14 months follow up. In chronic cases necrotic skin of the hand was debrided and replaced by island graft with vascular pedicle.
