Jeong, Lee, and Kim: The Transscaphoid Perilunar Dislocation

Abstract

Perilunar dislocation of carpal bones are not unusual injuries as to increase in high speed injuries. A good functional result seems to corelate with final anatomic alignment of carpus and rigid internal fixation. Eleven cases of transscaphoid perilunar dislocation were analysed which were treated for 5 years from 1984 to 1989 at the department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Pusan Maryknoll Hospital. The were analysed in regard to the clinical and radiologic aspects. The results were summarized as follows. 1. Of 11 cases, 6 cases were in age group 20 to 29, and all cases were male patient. 2. In 8 cases, the dislocation was found in right side. 3. All cases were dislocated dorsally. 4. The most frequnet cause of injury was fall from height with outstretched hand. 5. The result was satisfactory if the patient was treated with anatomical reduction and rigid internal fixation. 6. The average immobilization periods were 11 weeks for Herbert screw fixation and 16 weeks for K-wire fixation. 7. Traumatic arthritis wae developed in 1 case, avascular necrosis in 4 cases, nonunion in 2 cases.
