Ha, Hahn, Chung, Yang, and Chung: Reconstruction of Old Ruptured Posterior Cruciate Ligament using Polytetrafluoroethylene (Gore-Tex)

Abstract

The principle of treatment in old rupture of posterior cruciate ligament, whether conservative or reconstruction, is still controversial. Now, in National Police Hospital, we reconstructed 9 consecutive old ruptured posterior cruciate ligament using polytetrafluoroethylene (Gore-Tex), and obtain satisfactory outcome from March 1987 to January 1990. The range of the follow-up periods is from 12 to 41 months, mean 25 months. The instability and pain of thd knee joint resulting from old rupture of the posterior cruciate ligament were sufficient to perform surgical management. In the drawer view of the lateral knee joint roentgenogram, all cases slipped posteriorly more than 5mm compared to the contralateral healthy knee. The result was good at 6 cases, fair at 3 cases accordging to the Hughstons objective criteria.
