Abstract
Acromioclavicular joint injuries are frequently seen with the recent increase of traffic and industrial accidents. There are many procedures described for the treatment of acromioclavicular dislocation but there are still controversies concerning the best treatment of these injuries. From March 1987 to March 1989 at Dae Dong Hospital, 10 patients with acromioclavicular dislocation had been treated surgically by Modified Bosworth method. The following results were obtained. 1. Injuries were more prevalent in male (80%) with peak incidence in the 3rd and 4th decades (70%) 2. The most common cause of the injuries was traffic accidents (60%) and followed by sports injuries (20%). 3. There were 5 cases of Grade III and the same case of Grade V by Rockwood and Green's classification. 4. Results were good in 8 cases and fair in 2 cases by Weaver and Dunn's criteria. 5. Fixation of the coracoclavicular joint with the Bosworth screw seemed to provide not only a strong and anatomical reduction of acromioclavicular joint, but also early exercise and normal daily activities to the patients. 6. Partial resection of distal end of clavicle in severe acromioclavicular joint involvement may prevent the secondary degenerative arthritis of acromiocalvicular joint.
