Abstract
We analyzed forty-seven cases of femoral neck fractures treated with internal fixation, using the multiple pins or screws and sliding-nail plate, and followed-up for more than 1.6yrs at Wonju Christian Hospital, Yonsei University. These patients were treated from Jan 1981 to June 1989. Our conclusions were as follows:l. 29 cases were male and 18 cases were female, and average age, respectively, was forty five years old and fifty eight years old. 2. Time from injury to treatment was average 37.6 hrs and ranged from minimum 6 hrs to 27.4 days. 3. 3 cases of avascular necrosis of femoral head had occurred with treatment within 24 hrs, and 1 case within 7 days. Non-union also had occurred in 2 cases with treatment within 24 hrs. 1 case within 48 hrs, and 1 case within 7 days and 14 days, respectively. 4. Good reduction was achieved with 14 cases according to the Garden's alignment index. There was no complication in this group. Acceptable reduction was achieved in 12 cases, and 1 cases of non-union was occurred. Poor reduction and malreduction were 15 cases and 6 cases, respectively. Poor reduction produced 1 case of non-union and 3 cases of avascular necrois of femoral head. 3 cases of avascular necrosis of femoral head and 3 cases of non-union occurred in malreduction group. 5. There were AVN of 8.5% and non-union of 14.89% among whole cases. 6. The occurrence of complication is not related to operation time, presence and absence of displacement, and internal fixation method, but related to accuracy of reduction.
