Abstract
Cerical spondyloysis and spondylolisthesis is a rare anomaly, first described by Perlman and Hawes in 1952. The 6th cervical vertebra is the site of predilection. Only 7 cases at the axis have been reported in the review of literature. Most of the cases showed spina bifida at the level of spondylolisthesis. The roentgenographic changes in this case resemble those of hangman's fracture. throughout the course strongly suggest that the lesion is congenital in origin. The authors report one case of spondyloysis of the axis and outline its roentgenographic features for differential diagnosis.
