Abstract
The neurilemmoma is an encapsulated nerve sheath tumor consisting of the organized elements:the Antoni A cells, the Antoni B cells and the Verocay bodies. The encapsulation and the presence of the organized elements differentiate it from the neurofibroma. A review of nine cases (eight patients) of neurilemmomas of the extremities from January 1980 to December 1989 was presented and the following results were obtained. l. Of the eight patients, three were male and five female. 2. They ranged in age at operation from twenty-two to forty-six years with an average of thirty-two years.
3. The anatomical locations are as follows:arm(1 case), forearm (1 case,), thigh (4 cases), leg (2 cases), and foot (1 case). 4. The symptoms are summarized as follows:Three patients had pain:two had local tenderness;two had both pain and tenderness:and three had neurologic symptoms (hypoethesia, Tinel sign, and paresthesia). 5. The correct diagnosis was made only in three cases preoperstively. 6. All patients were treated by enucleation with preservation of the nerve trunk and there was no recurrence.
