Abstract

The injuries caused by foreign bodies were occured frequently, but sometimes it was difficult to diagnose and remove foreign bodies, especially wooden material or thorn. So we clinically analyzed 99 patients who were injured by foreign bodies between January 1981 and December 1990 and the following results were obtained. 1. There were 72 male and 27 female patients and the average age was 26.3 years. 2. Glass, needle, and iron particle were the most common foreign bodies and 28 patients sustained 39 associated injuries. 3. The most common location of foreign body was the hand, and the right hand was more common than the left. 4. 5 patients (5.1%) could not recall any histories of injuries and 6 cases (6.1%) were undetectable on simple roentrenography. 5. 11 cases of foreign body induced 9 cases of inflammation and 2 cases of synovitis. 6. Image-intensifier was useful for removal of foreign bodies.
