Moon, Lee, Lim, Kim, and Lee: A Clinical Study of Degenerative Lumbar Scoliosis

Abstract

Fracture of the talus is relativelyv rare. When they cccur, however, they are of major importance because of the frequency of complication and long term disability. A clinical evaluation of 34 partients with fracture of the talus has been made from january 1981 to October 1990 and followed them more than 12 months for each. The following results were obtained; 1. There are 26 men and 8 women and their average age was 27.8 years. Common causes of fracture were traffic accident(44.1%) and fall down(44.1%). 2. There are associated injuries in 70% of all cases and the same side lower extremity is commonly associated. 3. According to the classification by Hawkins, 4 of the fractures were type I, 10 in type II, 7 in type III and 11 were body and process. 4. All 4 cases in type I were treated conservatively, and 5 cases in type II and 2 cases in type III were also treated conservatively, and another 5 cases in type II and 7 cases in type III were treated operatively. 5. According to the criteria by the Hawkins, good result in type I and operatively treated in type II, but poor result in type III and conservatively treated in type II. 6. Avascular necrosis was occured in 30% in type II and 77% in type III.
