Kim, Rhee, Oh, and Lee: The Treatment of Ipsilateral Fracture of the Femur and Tibia

Abstract

The cases of ilpsilateral femur and tibia shaft fracture were treated and analyzed in Choong Ang Gil Hospital from March, 1986 to Feburary, 1989, and we have reached conclusions as follows; l. It was more predominent in male than in female (23 cases; 92%) and those around 40 years of age were also predominent (10 cases; 40%). 2. The most common cause of injuries was traffic accidents (16 cases; 64%). 3. The most common associated injury was pelvic bone fracture (8 cases; 32%). 4. The average time of bony union of fracture was 26.3 weeks in femur and 29.2weeks in tibia. 5. Group V, treated by intramedullary nailing for both fracture and Group VI, treated by intramedullary nailing with compression plate had showed a relatively good result. 6. Group V had showed the shortest admission periods.
