Lee, Lim, Suh, and Hong: Conservative Treatment of Congenital clubfoot with Strapping and New Ankle-Foot Orthosis

Abstract

The author's regimen for idiopathic congenital clubfoot is serial strapping followed by maintenance brace, the latter of which is their own modification having both side's shoes separated, unlike Denis-Browne splint. The total number of idiopathic clubfeet treated by the regimen and made up of follow-up more than one year is fifty-seven feet out of thirty-nine children. Thirty-nine feet(61.4%) seemed to stay with good result to the last follow-up and the other twenty-two feet eventually underwent surgery of one type or another for mostly residual deformities. The operative procedures offered were posteromedial release(10 feet), posterolateral release(8 feet) and medial release(4 feet) with varying degree of success.
