Lee, Kwon, Kim, and Son: A Simplied Approach to the Tibial Attachment of the Posterior Cruciate Ligament: Report of Nine Cases

Abstract

The standard approach through the popliteal fossa to the tibial attachment of the posterior cruciate ligament is frequently regarded as hazardous. Burks et al. reported the simplified approach which did not divide the medial head of gastrocnemius muscle, but retract it laterally. They described that excellent exposure of the posterior cruciate ligament, as well as the posterior horns of this approach for 3 cases of tibial avulsion fracture, 4 of rupture at tibial and lateral menisci was obtained. From Oct. 1990, we used this approach for 3 cases of tibial avulsion fracture, 4 of rupture at tibial attachment and 2 of chronic deficiency of posterior cruciate ligament. we thought that the approach was ideal for exposure of tibial attachment of posterior cruciate ligament.
