Chun, Kim, Lee, and Nah: The Tibial condylar Fractures Treated by Surgical Method

Abstract

The tibial condylar fractures are especially challenging to the orthopaedic surgeon because they affect the alignment, stability and movement of knee joint. Since the value of early knee motion was proven, surgical treatment has been one of the treatment of choice at the tibial condylar fractures. Furthermore the development of specially designed screws and plates made possible rigid fixation allowing early knee motion without loss of reduction. So it is recently trending that the surgical method is preferable. Of the tibial condylar fractures which had been treated by surgical method at Wonkwang university from July 1984 to June 1991, we clinically analyzed the 48 cases with follow-up for over 1½years. Overall results which were evaluated according to Porters evaluation systems were Acceptable in 32 cases (66.6%), "Unacceptable" in 16 cases (33.4%).
