Lee, Cho, Chang, Choi, and Kim: Clinical Investigations of Treatment for Infected Nonunion in Long Bone with Papineau's Cancellous Bone Graft

Abstract

When chronic osteomyelitis has been developed in open fracture of long bone with severe soft tissue and bone loss, the treatment had very difficult problem. We treated 11 cases of infected nonunion with papineau bone graft from, March 1987 to March 1991. The following results were obtained. 1. The duration of external fixation was 9,9 months and we did not use protective measures after removal of external fixation device in all except one (10 out of 11 cases). 2. We obtained the incorporation of grafted bone at 1.6months, replacement by now bone at 4.4months and appearance of cortex at 6.4 months. 3. Papineaus bone graft is be alterative mehod for treatment of infected nonunion in long bone.
