Abstract
PURPOSE
To evaluate the effect of curettage and autogenous bone graft procedure in treating early stage (I, lla) osteonecrosis of the femoral head.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
The series included 25 cases in 22 patients, having at least 1-year follow up and 8 years at the most. The operative technique was a modified method based on Steinberg's procedure.
RESULTS
In the postop clinical evaluations, 66.7% of stage I, and 61.5% of stage II a were graded as "good" In the radiological evaluation, 66.7% of stage I, and 53.8% of staged II a were grad ed as "good". The number of patients needed for total hip replacement were 4 cases (16%).
CONCLUSIONS
Curettage and autogenous bone graft procedure is effective in treating the femoral head.
