On October 30, 2018, we received an email informing us of the inclusion of our journal in the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE). This news could not come soon enough considering the efforts of our editors and reviewers and our readers worldwide.
Next year our journal celebrates its 60th anniversary of publication. The history of Investigative and Clinical Urology began in 1960. The Korean Journal of Urology (KJU), an official journal of the Korean Urological Association (KUA), has been continuously published since 1960. In 2010, the KJU became an English-language journal to garner the journal more international recognition [1]. In 2016, the KJU changed its title to Investigative and Clinical Urology (ICUrology) to open doors to more international authors and readers [2].
The first Editor of the KJU was Professor Kun Weon Choo. In 1967, Professor Young Kyoon Kim organized the editorial board with 9 Korean editors. Currently, the board is made up of 27 Korean editors and 33 international editors from 18 countries who serve to edit and publish the journal. In total, 15 editors have served in the position of Editor-in-Chief and have published more than 8,000 peer-reviewed articles since 1960.
Thanks to dedication of the former editorial boards, the KJU was indexed in Scopus in 2005, PubMed Central (PMC) in 2010, MEDLINE in 2014, and Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI) in 2015. Finally, we recently received a letter of acceptance for inclusion in SCIE from the editor of Web of Science, Clarivate Analytics. This extraordinary achievement would not have been possible without the collaborative support and contributions of the members and editors of the KUA as well as many international scholars in the field of urology.
To uphold the international standard of publication ethics, the ICUrology follows the ethical recommendations of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) and regularly screens submitted content for originality by using CrossCheck (CrossRef, Lynnfield, MA, USA). The ICUrology is also indexed in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) and carries out the policy of the platinum open access journal to strive to impart high-quality and timely knowledge to a broad audience worldwide [3].
By being indexed in the SCIE, ICUrology has just taken a giant step toward becoming a premier journal in the field of urology. The final goal of our journal is to become your first-choice journal in urology.
Finally, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the members of the KUA, all the editorial board and staff members, reviewers, and authors for their commitment and contributions.
All the best,
