Kim, Lee, Khil, Yoon, and Lee: Develpment of a DERS(Direct Emergency Response System) and a HDMS(Host Data Management System)

Abstract

Telemedicine is forming a new architecture in health care services. Recent breakthroughs in communication technologies have been required the development of telemedicine device. To meet the requirement of telemedicine, the development of a direct emergency response system(DERS) and host data management system(HDMS) is proposed in this paper. We present the principles of a paltform developed for ECG, NIBP, respiration in a telemedicine setting. HDMS consists of five functions, auto- answer(due to priority), communication with DERS(full-duplex: signal and voice), autodisplay, DB management, and record of doctor's view. The main purpose was to help patients of emergency condition, from remote or isolated areas to get appropriate and experienced medical care directly from large central hospitl. We tested out our system by field conditin in Wonju(Test speed: 0~120Km/h, Test time: 1:30~23:50, Test place: expressway, highway, country load, city load) All parameters(ECG Signal, Heart Rate, NIBP value, Respiration Signal and value.) were transfered to central hospital(HDMS) with about 1.7% data loss. The result was successful relatively considering in it's cost and effect.(Using Public Wireless communication media). In near future this system will be used widely in emergency conditions.
