Suh and Shin: Clinical experience of the displaced proximal humeral fracture

Abstract

A study was made of 13 cases of 3 part, 4 part fracture-dislocation and head- splitting proximal humeral fracture in adult who had admitted and treated at the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Pusan National University Hospital, from May 1985 to July 1990.
Analysis was based on the age, sex distribution, causes, associated injuries, treatments results of treatment and complications.
The results obtained were as follows
1. The highest incidence was between the age of 21 and 50 years and male was affected more frequently than female.
2. The main cause of injuries was slip down and traffic accident.
3. Among the three cases which were trealed conservatively, the results of two cases were satisfactory and one case was fall.
Among the four cases which were treated open reduction with shoulder spica cast, the results of two cases were unsatisfactory and the others were fail.
Among the four cases which were treated open reduction with early motion of loint, the results of two cases were satisfactory and the others were fail.
The results of four cases which were treated primary or secondary shoulder arthorplasty were satisfactory.
