Kim, Choi, and Oh: Bipolar hemiarthroplasty as secondary procedure for femoral neck fractures in young adults

Abstract

Bipolar hemiarthroplasty as secondary proceduFe for femoral neck fractures was performed in seven patients between January 1985 and December 1989 and the results are as follows.
1. There were five male(71.4%) and two female patients(28.6%) and the average age was 30.6 years.
2. Avasclar necrosis of the femoral head developed in five patients and nonunion, one patient, and combined, one patient.
3. The average duration between primary operation and secondary bipolar hemiarthroplasty was 26.4 months(ranged from 4 to 54 months).
4. Except one patient, the average hospital days of six patients were 22.2 days.
5. Average Harris hip score was 50.7 preoperatively and 92.2 postoperatively.
