Abstract
Despite significant advancess in cardiology, death from acute myocardial infarction has remained relatively unaltered.
The development of the coronary care unit represents one of the most significant advances in the hospital practice of medicine in the past decade, and there is much discussion about the anticoagulant therapy.
Establishment of coronary care unit must be accepted for the reduction in mortality rate in our country and the additional experience of anticoagulant therapy is necessary.
Sixty-six patients hospitalized with an electorcardiographyically confirmed diagnosis of myocardial infarction were clinically investigated and following results were obtained.
1. The ratio of acute myocardial infarction to old myocardial infarction was 5:1.
2. The ratio of male to female was 4:1 and fifty-eight percent of the cases belonged to age from 50 to 69.
3. The frequency of the anterior wall infarction was twiced the posterior wall infarction.
4. The order of the associated electrocardiographic findings in cases of acute myocardial Infarction was ventricular ectopic beat (4 case) complete heart block (3 case), atrial fibrillation (3 case) and complete right bundle branch block (2 case).
5. Case fatality rate of 66 cases with myocardial infarction was 24.2%(16 cases) and 15 cases out of 16 cases died within one month from the clinical onset.
