Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study was to examine the usefulness of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) through a character analysis of a novel and to improve the understanding of various types of people. This study aimed to increase nurses' understanding and empathy regarding the personality of various patients.
Methods
This study categorized the characters in the novel Our Happy Time based on MBTI and analyzed their personality characteristics.
Results
It is important for nurses to understand that the following types of patients can be identified using the MBTI: those with a concise explanation (ENTP), a modest attitude (ISFJ), an objective response (ENFJ), and a logical response (ENTJ).
Conclusion
It is important for nurses to broaden their understanding of various personality types and backgrounds related to the formation of patients' personalities that they encounter in the clinical field via analyses using the MBTI personality types. Furthermore, understanding communication skills can be an important first step in resolving conflicts that occur during peer interactions.
