Abstract

Glomus tumor is a kind of vascular tumor that arises from the glomus body, which regulates skin temperature and is placed in the skin and the subcutaneous area. It is a benign tumor that usually presents in the subungal area. It is relatively common in areas other than the fingers, but its occurrence in peripheral nerves is known to be comparatively rare. We report our experience with a case of glomus tumor arising from the brachial plexus, a rare site of occurrence for glomus tumors.

Preoperative clinical photo showed a protruded mass in the right supraclavicular region. It was palpated as an 1-2 cm sized mass with diffuse boundary.

MR image of the glomus tumor in right brachial plexus. (A) Coronal images. 1. Coronal T2-weighted fat-suppressed image showed mass arising from C5-6 neural foramen to right axilla. The mass was measured about 1.6 cm of diameter and 2-2.3 cm of thickness and had intermediate increased signal intensity. There was artifact due to the spinal instrumentation. 2. Coronal T1-weighted image with Gadolinium enhance showed that the mass (arrow) had low signal intensity and was well-enhanced. (B) Axial images. The same findings with the above figure (A).
