Global Burden of Diseases (GBD) is an important concept in public health. The GBD is a useful reference to decide priority. The score of Disability Adjusted Life Years (DALYs) was developed to figure GBD. The Korean GBD research team collected data of GBD in Korea using the national health insurance claim data.
This supplementary issue of the Journal of Korean Medical Science is entitled “Korean National Burden of Disease 2012” which introduces national disease burden and estimates DALYs in Korea. I believe this issue will contribute to the academic community of global health. This issue will stimulate the community to implement further related research. I appreciate Dr. Seok-Jun Yoon for his professional role as Guest Editor and all authors of the 13 articles in this issue for their scholarly contribution as specialists.
