Yoo: An Inaugural Message From the 7th Editor-in-Chief
As the newly inaugurated 7th Editor-in-Chief, I extend my heartfelt greetings to all of you, commencing in January 2024.
The Journal of Korean Medical Science (JKMS), founded in 1986, achieved SCIE indexing in 1999 and SCI indexing in 2005. In 2010, a significant milestone was reached with the reconstruction of our current website, marking the commencement of monthly Open Access publications.1 By 2016, JKMS proudly became a Member journal of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE).2 Since 2018, we transitioned to an exclusively online presence, notably adopting a weekly publication schedule.3
In 2022, we initiated collaboration with the Hong Kong Medical Journal, expanding our global connections.4 JKMS, thanks to the dedicated efforts of past editors, has consistently advanced, solidifying its position as a prominent scholarly journal representing general medicine in South Korea.5
Taking on the role of editor-in-chief from 2024 carries a substantial responsibility, but I am confident in the outstanding abilities of our editorial board members who collaborate diligently. I anticipate that the journal will continue to thrive under their expertise.
JKMS’s mission is twofold: to disseminate the latest medical knowledge to our members and to provide a platform for education. In this regard, we will actively seek and embrace high-quality articles, striving to garner numerous citations.6
We will actively accept the results of clinical trials and various recommendations and guidelines established by various domestic academic societies.
Moreover, building on the newly established case conference section in 2022, we will expand our role in continuous medical education (CME).7
We are also planning to strengthen the research methodology education corner that many members crave. As part of that plan, we already provide statistical services on our website (graphic tools for basic statistical analysis) and will continue to update them in the future.
We will pay more attention to global perspectives that broaden the scope of this journal overseas, and in particular, we will make efforts to increase the proportion of papers published by foreign authors.
In addition, we plan to seriously address ethical dilemmas in medicine that often arise when publishing papers.
As we delve into cutting-edge topics, including those related to artificial intelligence, which may shape the future, we commit to actively addressing these subjects.8
Such efforts, combined with our accumulated initiatives, will contribute to the evolution of JKMS into a journal of even higher quality.
We hope for the support and active feedback from our members. Together, let us work towards a future where JKMS continues to excel and serve the medical community with distinction.
