For past 50 years, the Korean Academy of Oral Health (KAOH) has strived to prevent oral diseases and promote oral health in Korea. Today, it is advancing towards a new century. By leading the Oral Health Act enactment, KAOH established an institutional foundation for public oral health and supported the development of various oral health policies and programs. It is also committed to fostering academic development and encouraging the younger generation through scholarships and oral health and preventive dentistry education by the Oral Health Department.
As an academy dedicated to preventive dentistry, KAOH took pride in having created specialist in this field for the first time this year. Currently, numerous specialists are receiving training at universities, and many talented individuals are expected to apply in the future.
The Journal of Korean Academy of Oral Health was founded in 1967. To date, it has provided a space for researchers to present their research findings and served as the Oral Health Department's representative academic journal for preventive dentistry. It has developed into an academic journal that encompasses experimental research and policy research, basic clinical dentistry, and natural scientific and human-social scientific approaches that have great research potential in the field of dentistry. Due to its wide academic influence, it was recognized as the academic journal with the highest Impact Factor among dentistry journals. It has also gained many accomplishments by promoting internationalization.
However, it is simultaneously facing various challenges as well. Due to the existence of a research evaluation system that focuses on well-known international academic journals and the increase in achievements in adjoining fields, the identity and development of the Journal of Korean Academy of Oral Health needs to be reviewed. We ask for your confidence in the Journal of Korean Academy of Oral Health, which has been the face and history of Korea's oral health to continue to publish many excellent research papers and develop as an exceptional academic journal.
