1. Measles Outbreak Investigation at a University Dormitory in the Republic of Korea, 2024.

Park JH, et al.
A measles outbreak occurred in University A’s dormitory on April 15, 2024, involving five Uzbek students. An epidemiological investigation identified the transmission route and control measures. The index case was a 19-year-old male from Uzbekistan. The attack rate among dormitory residents was 5.3% (22/418). Risk factors included male sex, teenagers, Uzbek nationality, Global Business students, and residents on the 2nd–3rd floors. Uzbek students had the lowest IgG seropositivity (26.5%). No cases occurred after April 19. Verifying and vaccinating international students is essential to prevent imported measles outbreaks.

2. Sleep Disturbance Among Workers: Interaction and Mediation of Job Satisfaction and Social Support.

Yun B, et al.
This study examined how job satisfaction mediates the link between low workplace social support and insomnia. Using data from 19,394 paid workers in the 6th Korean Working Conditions Survey, multivariable logistic regression, interaction, and mediation analyses were performed by sex. Low social support was associated with higher odds of insomnia in both men (OR, 1.71; 95% CI, 1.39–2.12) and women (OR, 1.34; 95% CI, 1.12–1.60). Significant interactions were found between social support and job satisfaction. Mediation analysis showed that job satisfaction accounted for 30.3% of this association, underscoring its key role.

3. Increasing Diabetes Incidence and Prevalence Among Koreans Aged Under 30 Years: Socioeconomic Disparities.

Kim J, et al.
This study analyzed 2008–2021 Korean National Health Insurance data to assess trends in young-onset diabetes (< 30 years) by socioeconomic status (SES). Type 1 diabetes incidence rose from 3.02 to 3.75 per 100,000, with higher rates in females and children. Prevalence more than doubled. Type 2 diabetes incidence increased from 27.61 to 60.45, higher in males and children, and prevalence nearly quadrupled. Both T1DM and T2DM rates were significantly higher in low-SES groups. These findings highlight a rising diabetes burden among young Koreans, emphasizing early detection and SES-targeted interventions.

4. Impact of Prepregnancy Maternal Fasting Glucose Levels on Pregnancy and Neonatal Morbidity in Women With Pregestational Diabetes Mellitus.

Cho GJ, et al.
This nationwide retrospective study examined 7,542 singleton pregnancies in women with pregestational diabetes to assess the impact of prepregnancy fasting plasma glucose (FPG) levels on pregnancy and neonatal outcomes. Higher FPG levels were associated with increased risks of preterm birth, macrosomia, and large-for-gestational-age infants. Compared with FPG < 85 mg/dL, FPG ≥ 126 mg/dL significantly increased neonatal morbidities, including transient tachypnea, respiratory distress syndrome, and hypoglycemia. These findings emphasize the importance of optimizing maternal FPG before conception to reduce adverse outcomes, warranting prospective studies on glycemic control across pregnancy.

5. A Prospective Multicenter Study on the Evaluation of Frequency of Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension in Korea.

Lee MJ, et al.
This prospective multicenter study assessed the frequency and clinical features of idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) in 13,028 new headache patients at 11 Korean hospitals (Jan 2022–Mar 2024). IIH was diagnosed in 22 patients (0.17%; median age 33 years; 81.8% women). Most were obese (72.7%), though only half had BMI ≥ 30 kg/m2. All reported ≥ 1 SNNOOP10 red flag, with papilledema most common (63.6%). However, 45.5% had no IIH-specific red flags. IIH frequency was low, and typical Western profiles were less common, indicating clinical suspicion alone may be insufficient in Asians.
