Ha, Hahn, Chung, Yang, and Yi: The Treatment of Involuntary Inferior and Multidirectional Instability of the Shoulder

Abstract

The fourteen shoulders in fourteen patinets with involuntary inferior and multidirectional subluxation or dislocation were treated by Neer's inferior capsular shift through anterior approach. In Neer's inferior capsular shift, a flap of capsule reinforced by overlying tendon is shifted to reduce capsular and ligamentous redundancy on all three sides. But if there were anterior instability without posterior instability, lateral transfer of subcapsular tendon was done in our series. The patients were followed up for an average of two years (range one to five year). One patient had posterior and inferior instability after the operation. All patients except one were satisfied with the results, who had no pain, no recurrence and mild limitation of motion.
