Ryu and Park: 2018 Changes in the Journal
The Journal of Veterinary Science (J Vet Sci) was launched in 2000 by the Korean Society of Veterinary Science (KSVS). The J Vet Sci is an open access journal and its articles are available free from the website of the Journal (www.vetsci.org) and PubMed Central (http://pubmedcentral.gov). The Journal has been published quarterly and about 80 articles were released each year until 2017. From 2018, the Journal makes changes in the number of issues published per year and the category of the articles.
Bi-monthly publication: In 2018, the J Vet Sci will be published bi-monthly beginning with Volume 19. This change will allow us to better disseminate new findings and opinions in the veterinary medical sciences, hence to better serve the authors and readers of the J Vet Sci.
Categories of publications: The J Vet Sci has been publishing the articles of the following categories: reviews, original articles, short communications, and case reports. In 2018, two more categories, ‘Perspective articles’ and ‘Letters to the editor’ will be added. The categories of the J Vet Sci until 2017 are for the articles purely based on the science and technology in the various fields of veterinary medicine. The perspective articles category will provide a new forum to cover the contexts in which veterinary medical research and clinical practice live and function in the world – from veterinary public service to animal ethics and welfare, from One Health to the history of veterinary medicine, and from veterinary policy to veterinarians' personal experiences in education, training and practice. Perspective articles should be timely, engaging, accessible, and informative to the general veterinarian readership. A perspective article is to be approximately 1,200 words, 5 references at most, and 1 or 2 display items if appropriate.
The letters to the editor category is introduced to provide another communication channel among the readers and authors of the J Vet Sci. The letter can be about the Journal articles, or about the veterinary issues not related to a specific Journal article. Letters in reference to a Journal article must not exceed 175 words (excluding references), and must be received within three weeks after publication of the article. Letters not related to a Journal article must not exceed 400 words (excluding references). A letter can have no more than five references and one figure or table. A letter can be signed by no more than three authors. Letters to the editor are subject to editing and abridgment and should not contain material that has been submitted or published elsewhere.
The changes would improve the quality of our service to the readership of the J Vet Sci, and we will keep working to meet the high expectation of readers to the Journal.
